Neighborhood & Community Engagement
The Urban Mission’s Neighborhood & Community Engagement department is an outreach ministry of Urban Mission.
There are three key ministry areas of the Neighborhood & Community Engagement ministry: UM Neighbors, Community Engagement & Community Development:
UM Neighbors
UM Neighbors provides outreach & referral services, general clean-up & beautification services, and “check ins” with businesses, agencies and churches to build connections between those diverse groups.
Urban Mission Neighbors also serves as a low barrier entry point for volunteers (paid and unpaid), community service workers, and Urban Mission Works trainees.
Community Engagement
UM’s Community Engagement connects members of the community with programs and ministries of the Urban Mission.
Prospective volunteers and donors can learn more about the Urban Mission by attending orientations and other training events sponsored by the Community Engagement department.
Community Development
Since 1977, the Neighborhood Community Development Center (NCDC) has kept its ear attuned to the needs of the community. As a result, NCDC has offered programs ranging from AIDS prevention to leadership development to health and wellness camps for our community’s youth.
Currently NCDC hosts a series of events during Minority Health Month, ongoing education and programming for individuals with Lupus and Diabetes, a Youth Wellness program, coat and shoe give-a-ways, a Back-to-School Celebration and Christmas toy distributions. Through each event, community members are given the necessary tools and training to develop leadership skills to implement these programs.
Contact our Community Developer, Ms. Cynthia Lytle at 740.282.8010 or [email protected] to find out more about the exciting opportunities offered through NCDC.
